What the Association Stands For

Association Policy

Macedon Ranges Residents' Association Inc does not run, or financially support, candidates.  Association members are free to nominate for as candidates for any political office, and if they do, it is entirely their decision. 

If an Association member nominates as a candidate, under the Association's Rules (at Rule 4: Qualification for Membership), the following sub-clauses apply to members or potential members, and are adhered to: 

• No Macedon Ranges Shire Councillor, or member of senior Council staff (as defined in the Local Government Act 1989), may become or continue to be members of the Association.
• The Association may not accept a membership application from a person who is running for or elected to political office.
• If a member of the Association runs for political office, his or her Association membership is suspended and the member must not participate in any Association activities and business from the time they nominate as a candidate until election results are declared or the member’s campaign is otherwise terminated.
• Any member elected to political office may not continue to be a member of the Association.

Association Members Running As Candidates

Neither the Association nor candidates are under any obligation to make a declaration about membership.  Other organisations don't (including political parties).  However, as the Association forms and expresses views on candidates, we declare when a current member is a candidate. 

• In this election, MRRA President Brian Whitefield is a candidate in South Ward (the above Rules apply).

Note: Jennifer Anderson, a West Ward candidate, was previously a member of the Association.  Although not required under the Association's Rules, she resigned before nominating to run as an independent candidate.
