Victoria uses optional preferential voting for the Upper House. This means you can easily vote "below the line", and choose which candidates get - and don't get - your vote. How? By numbering five (5) candidates, in order of preference (from 1 to 5).
You can number as many candidates "below the line" as you like, but MUST number 5 candidates sequentially for your vote to count. Your vote then goes only to the candidates you numbered, in the order you numbered (for example, 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5),
Once your vote has been passed to all the candidates you numbered, it cannot be passed to any other candidates.

| PARTY RESPONSE to MRRA questions: The Napthine Government is committed to delivering planning protection to the Macedon Ranges consistent with Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 (SPP8) – Macedon Ranges and Surrounds. When elected in 2010, the Coalition State Government committed to planning protection for four shires – Mornington Peninsula, the Yarra Valley, the Bellarine Peninsula and Macedon Ranges - with each local government charged with undertaking a consultative process resulting in three Localised Planning Statements (LPS) reflective of the unique character of each region. The Macedon Ranges Shire Council conducted a process to draft its new LPS which was adopted by Council on 24 September 2014. The adopted LPS has attracted significant opposition from local resident groups and locals in the Macedon Ranges. The primary concern is that the LPS has failed to adequately reflect Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 (SPP8) – Macedon Ranges and Surrounds approved by the Victorian Government in 1975. The Localised Planning Statement was meant to put SPP8 in to state level protection; but update it so it referred to current planning schemes, not those of the 1970s. The LPS drafted by Macedon Ranges Shire Council has failed to deliver this. The Localised Planning Statement was meant to put SPP8 in to state level protection; but update it so it referred to current planning schemes, not those of the 1970s. The LPS drafted by Macedon Ranges Shire Council has failed to deliver this. Given the length of time taken by Macedon Ranges Shire Council to conduct this process to date, a re-elected Napthine Government will take over this process and will work with both Macedon Ranges Shire Council and locals to ensure that the Localised Planning Statement for Macedon Ranges puts SPP8 in to state level protection - providing strong planning protection which encompasses the whole of the Macedon Ranges. | PARTY RESPONSE to MRRA questions:
As a minor party hoping to gain votes where ever they can be found it would be easy to tell you that we uphold everything in Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 as a State Policy, but that would be misleading without having time to fully understand the detail of the policy and the effects of its application. Rise Up Australia Party believes in the right of our communities having major input into planning decisions and the type of community they want to become. There are certain areas of Victoria that come to mind where open slather development does not suit and should have planning limitations to ensure those areas maintain their historic or cultural significance. Such areas would include land around the Grampians, along the great ocean Rd. and the Macedon region. One of our policies is to limit foreign ownership so that at least 51% of each land or asset sale remains in Australian hands. We can imagine the destruction of our heritage areas if our development land is sold to foreign investors while restriction on them to develop what they want are removed. We need our governments to realise that the future prosperity of our Country and of the State of Victoria cannot simply be tallied in a balance book but also in the quality of the lives lived by all Australians. http://riseupaustraliaparty.com/?page_id=2198 |
