Victorian Forests Under Threat - From Their "Protectors"
Apologies for cross posting, unusual posting, and for
posting to lists but there is a specific task looming ahead which involves
democracy, forest protection and climate change.
Some of you may have noticed that the government is getting so bold that we are getting signs of interference in actual legal cases in Australia.
This is a watershed case.
You may not be called on, but it is very likely that next
week bodies may be needed to physically stop logging in East Gippsland Brown
Mountain Forest.
See below Forward for reference to injunction case. More
details if you click on the
link.
Forward:
Sorry - bad news this time.
Hello again everyone -
It seems that the LF Potoroo, which MUST be protected under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act has no guarantee of protection! VicForests have stated they intend to start logging next week!
VicForests and DSE are either digging themselves a huge hole they won't be able to clamber out of, or this government has become as corrupt as the worst and tied in with the logging mafia. We are pushing ahead with the injunction but that isn't 100% reliable, depending on the judge and political hanky panky (dare I suggest such a thing). We have an extremely strong case but it doesn't necessarily mean we'll win.
We will be needing to prepare for the worst next week.
If there are any of you out there who could possibly come up/down and help at the drop of a hat, that'd be great. I'm happy to try and stop them but that'll only hold them up for a day or so. Support crew needed as well as 'canon fodder'.
Please can you get this around to your networks.
Will keep you updated but try not to clog your in boxes.
Many thanks.
Jill"

This is what we are used to reading about Borneo and the Amazon. Now we can read it about Victoria. In fact, it is happening all over the world. Bad governments are simply going ahead doing awful things in a place near by. What makes you think your government is any different? Are you watching them? Are you helping to protect your forests?
