Macedon Ranges Seeing Red

by the people for the people of Macedon Ranges

Macedon Ranges Seeing Red is a community action group born in response to a community priority for preserving and protecting towns and rural land in Macedon Ranges.   The group was launched in Gisborne just before Christmas, 2004.   From its first meeting of some 80 people, in just a few months Seeing Red now has over 450  514 registered supporters from all areas of Macedon Ranges Shire.

Here’s an extract from a December 2004 Seeing Red press release which gives an insight into what the group is about:

MACEDON RANGES SEEING RED.COM is the name of a new community group launched in Gisborne this week. Local Councillors Deb Dunn and Rob Guthrie called for the formation of a working party to stop the spread of suburbia into the Ranges two weeks ago and were overwhelmed with the response.

Cr Dunn said "we had residents from Gisborne, Macedon, Riddells Creek, Bullengarook, Woodend and the Mount offer assistance. What has been achieved in two short weeks is astounding."

"They have launched their own website (macedonrangesseeingred.com) featuring their own stories. They have made plans to achieve their ultimate goal, which is to get a written undertaking from the Premier recognizing the State significance of our beautiful Shire and State protection of our rural townships and landscapes. We want the Premier to put in writing that we are NOT THE SAME as metropolitan Melbourne. Their one size fits all planning model just won't cut it in the Macedon Ranges."

"We chose a Shire wide name to enable our network to grow and encompass all that is special about the Ranges. We extend a warm invitation to residents across the Shire that are SEEING RED over inappropriate development to register their support and also to display their red ribbons."

"We've started a tally which will be updated regularly. We are counting up our registered numbers (64) and counting down the days to the next State election (718 days)."

Macedon Ranges Seeing Red recently released a brochure describing ‘the carve’ of Gisborne, and sending a RED ALERT to residents.  Click here to see the brochure.

Visit Seeing Red’s website to find out more about the group, make contact, buy a T shirt or register your support.  The website features comments from local residents telling how they feel about Macedon Ranges Shire and why they want inappropriate development to stop.
