‘Bendigo Fast Train’ Song Recorded
(31/7/05 - CCA) CD now available
A CD has now been made of the Bendigo Fast Train Song, and it’s a dandy! Chattanooga Choo Choo never sounded this good. MRRA will attempt to put the track on this website. In the meantime, if you are interested in obtaining a copy, please email MRRA on mrra.sec999@gmail.com and we will pass your message on.
‘Bendigo Fast Train’: Rail Song Completed!
(14/6/05 - CC) Sing along to the tune of that old standard, ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’, with this version submitted by “Sparafuciel”.
Pardon me boy, is that the Bendigo Fast Train?
One single track, Bracks deserves the sack.
Can I afford to board, the Bendigo Fast Train?
I’ve got my fare, with very little to spare.
You leave Bendigo station ‘bout quarter to eight,
Expect to get to Spencer Street exceedingly late,
Waitin’ in the sidin’, fury ever risin’,
What a great idea to buy trains without first sizin’.
When you hear the speaker crackle ‘here we are’,
Then you know that Spencer Street is finally not far,
Keep the Fast Train agoin’, tho’ still can’t beat my Holden,
Bendigo Fast Train, you’re no star!
There’s gonna be, certain “suits” at the station,
Batchelor and Bracks, such typical party hacks,
And people will come, from near and oh so far,
Chanting ‘Bendigo Fast Train, what a shambles you are!’.
(Repeat) ‘Bendigo Fast Train, what a shambles you are!’,
Chooo chooo chooo, oh what a shambles you are!.
Another Piece Falls Into Place on The “Rail Song”
(18/5/05) Following on from the story above, here is another verse sent to us by CG of Bendigo (also author of the verse below).
There’s gonna be, certain parties at the station,
Batchelor and Bracks, typical Labor hacks,
People will come, from near and from far,
Chanting ‘Bendigo Fast Rail, what a shambles you are’.
(Repeat) ‘Bendigo Fast Rail, what a shambles you are’,
Chooo chooo chooo, oh what a shambles you are.
We are still looking for someone to convert the middle verses of the original song (below) into the “Rail Song”.
You leave the Pennsylvania station ‘bout a quarter to four,
Read a magazine and then you’re in Baltimore,
Dinner in the diner, nothing could be finer,
Than to have your ham and eggs in Carolina,
When you hear the whistle blowing eight to the bar.
Then you know that Tennessee is not very far,
Shovel all your coal in, gotta keep her rollin’,
Whoo, whoo Chattanooga there you are.
If you’ve got any ideas, you can send them in to MRRA on mrra.sec999@gmail.com or to the Midland Express, Kyneton office on edit@elliottmidnews.com.au
Can You Finish The “Rail Song”?
(12/5/05) A Letter to the Editor in the Midland Express this week caught our eye. The author is looking for someone to improve on what he’s done so far.
The ‘Rail Song’
“Nothing illustrates more the stupidity and incredible incompetence of the Bracks Government than the 1.3 billion white elephant, the Fast Rail. It deserves to be commemorated in song. But I need help. So far I have written:
Pardon me boy, is that the Bendigo Fast Rail?
One single track, Bracks deserves the sack.
Can I afford to board, the Bendigo Fast Rail?
I’ve got my fare, with very little to spare.
I agree it’s pretty pathetic! But I’m hoping one of your readers can improve on it, and finish the job. The tune of course, is Chattanooga Choo Choo.”
