Macedon Ranges’ ‘Planning For A Sustainable Future’ Project Begins
(26/4/05 - SP) How sustainable will Macedon Ranges’ future be? This project puts Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 – the policy that has protected Macedon Ranges since 1975 – up for grabs. How confident are you that SPP8 will survive the government/department’s hidden growth agenda?
This is a project funded by the State government in response to MRRA’s visit to Planning Minister Delahunty last year. We haven’t heard too much about how this one is travelling but MRRA understands that a ‘technical review’ of a large amount of background material is underway by project consultants, SKM. Workshops, refinement and exhibition will follow. A workshop with relevant agencies was due to be held in early April. Next on the schedule is a focus group workshop with Council’s advisory committees and groups including Macedon Ranges Residents’ Association and Macedon Range Conservation Society (scheduled for late April). MRRA has heard that Mr. Graham David, who was one of the panel members for Macedon Ranges’ Amendments C8 and C21, is reviewing Statement of Planning Policy Number 8 – Macedon Ranges and Surrounds, and is also putting together a new, statewide planning control for application to open, potable water catchments.
