Australian Bureau of Statistics Changes How It Will Count 2011 Census

(11/7/11 - P)  Transfer to new Statistical Geography Standard begins

The ABS has announced it will use a new Statistical Geography Standard to present 2011 Census statistics.  The new Standard presents statistics in more specific categories, allowing finer detail and comparison, and it is hoped that the new Standard will ensure consistency well into the future. Click here to find out more, and see what will be used.

MRRA Says:

With the range of statistic 'sets' that will be available, specifying which are being used will be imperative.

ABS says it will retain SLA (Statistical Local Area) counts.  These are former Shire areas (e.g. Romsey) which have been used for many years to gauge and compare population and demographic changes. There's not much worse than sudden changes which leave only apples and oranges comparisons, so good on you, ABS, for holding on to them.
