Mt. William Wurundjeri Green Stone Axe
Quarry Tours
The Wurundjeri now have full title and responsibility for the management of Mt William. The land was originally purchased by the former Shire of Romsey and it was subsequently gifted to the Wurundjeri by the first Macedon Ranges Shire Council in the 1990s as a meaningful gesture of reconciliation.
The bus tours seek to celebrate and build on the good will that is developing
between the Wurundjeri and the Macedon Ranges Shire community.
The Wurundjeri Stone Axe Quarry is listed on the
National Heritage List
for its cultural and archaeological significance to Australia. (Click Here for
more detail)
The tours will be guided by Annette Xiberras, Elder of the Wurundjeri,
traditional custodians of Mt William and the Macedon Ranges Shire region.
In addition to the significance of the site to the Wurundjeri and Australia, the
views are spectacular and the site is located in high quality native vegetation
with an abundance of wildflowers.
