draft Metro Waste and Resource Recovery Strategic Plan Out For Consultation

(7/4/08 - E)  Submissions close 19 May

The draft Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Strategic Plan is now out for public consultation and comment until May 19.  The 20-year strategic plan addresses directions for waste and resource recovery in metropolitan Melbourne. The draft strategic plan includes the overarching 'Metropolitan Plan', which provides the strategic framework for the management of all solid waste in metropolitan Melbourne; the 'Municipal Solid Waste Infrastructure Schedule', which details existing and required infrastructure for municipal solid waste; and the 'Metropolitan Landfill Schedule', which identifies the location and sequence for the filling and operation of landfill sites.  A final Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Strategic Plan is expected to be released by the Minister for Environment later this year. To download the draft Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Strategic Plan and an Executive Summary go to www.mwmg.vic.gov.au or www.sustainability.vic.gov.au

MRRA Says:

While not directly relevant to Macedon Ranges, this is an important, long-term document.  There is a focus on local government and its relatively poor performance in meeting current targets for reuse and recycling.  Have a read of it, if you can.
