Caring For Country - That's Our Country!  Fabulous New Publication About Where We Live

(28/8/06 - E)  Free copies available for Macedon Ranges' residents on lots bigger than 2ha, or download from Council's website

Macedon Ranges Shire Council has 3,000 copies of a new booklet, "Caring For Country: A Guide for Sustainable Land Management In Central Victoria",  produced specifically for the North Central Catchment Management Authority's catchment area.  That includes roughly the north-western half of Macedon Ranges Shire.

"Caring For Country" is a joint project, supported by Councils and water authorities within the CMA's boundaries, the EPA, Parks Victoria, Landcare and the State government.  It contains lots of interesting and useful information about Rural Living, Water, Biodiversity and Property Management which include chapters on subjects like Your Block, Water Is Gold!, What Is Biodiversity?, Looking After Your Soil, and Being A Good Neighbour, and also a chapter on Key Contacts to let you get even more information.  Produced as part of the Engaging Absentee Landowners In Land Management project (initiated in 2005 by Macedon Ranges Shire and Mount Alexander Shire, and funded by North Central Catchment Management Authority), the booklet has something for all residents and gives an easily-digested insight into what's important and what each of us can do to better understand, improve and protect the things that are fundamental components of 'where we live'.

If you live on land bigger than 2ha, you can apply to Council for your free colour booklet using the application form on Council's website at http://www.mrsc.vic.gov.au/Page/page.asp?Page_Id=1482&h=0  or, regardless of where you live or what size property you have, you can download a copy from the same website address (note: these are largish files).   Any questions?  Call Barry Whelan at Macedon Ranges Shire Council on 5429 9657 or email barryw@macedon-ranges.vic.gov.au

MRRA Says:

Congratulations to everyone involved in this project, and particularly, a big 'excellent' to Council's Environmental Services department.  If you want to know and understand more about what makes the things we love about Macedon Ranges tick, Caring For Country is a great place to start.

The “Engaging Absentee Owners” Program Is A Great Idea

(29/1/06 – E)  Search for information about how to improve land management practices

A new program auspiced by North Central Catchment Management Authority and Macedon Ranges Shire Council is designed to get information about how people who own land but don’t live here look after their land. It’s part of a program to encourage absentee landholders to become aware of and get involved in land management issues (such as weed control).  It’s a positive move and deserves applause.   You can find out more about it by contacting Barry Whelan at MRSC on 5429 9657.
