2007 Sir John Quick Bendigo Lecture - 12.30pm Thursday 25 October (RSVP Essential)

(20/9/07 - E)  Oooeee!!!  If you know who David Suzuki is, you will be interested in this...  "Can We Avoid the Looming Ecological Armageddon?"

Of course you know who David Suzuki is...and it's free.

On Thursday 25 October Dr. David Suzuki - award-winning scientist, environmentalist and broadcaster - will present "Can We Avoid the Looming Ecological Armageddon?" live via video conference from Vancouver, Canada.

Dr Suzuki will look at the contrast between our vaunted claims at rationality and the way we are handling ecological issues like climate change.

He argues that, in the case of climate change, our political leaders do not use the best information to reach a conclusion. They factor in such things as the next election and the business community's needs and then adopt the kind of information that justifies their actions.

Dr Suzuki suggests that this goes directly against the strategy for survival used by our species since the beginning of our existence - using our ability to peer into the future, check out the dangers and opportunities and then to act accordingly.
