Greenpeace:

Free The Tokyo Two - Put Whaling On Trial

The Japanese whaling fleet is again on its way to Antarctic waters for its annual hunt to kill whales in the name of science.

Greenpeace has made nine expeditions to disrupt the whalers in the past 20 years. With opposition to whaling growing, this year we will be focusing our efforts to end whaling in the whalers’ own backyard - Japan.

On Tuesday we created a massive 17 metre sand sculpture of a fin whale on Bondi Beach to send a message to Japanese authorities that Australians strongly oppose whaling.   Watch our time lapse video and see the sculpture take shape.

In May 2008, Greenpeace activists Junichi Sato and and Toru Suzuki were arrested for exposing the scandal at the heart of the whaling industry. Their undercover work in Japan revealed that choice cuts of whale meat were being illegally smuggled onshore and sold on the black market.  So much for scientific whaling!

Junichi and Toru, now known as the Tokyo Two, are awaiting trial and face up to 10 years in gaol for their efforts to end lethal whaling. But if trying to save whales is a crime then we are all guilty and they are going to have to arrest the lot of us!

If saving whales is a crime – arrest us too!

Join more than 24,000 supporters who want to see an end to whaling and have already signed our petition in support Tokyo Two. If saving whales is a crime they can arrest us too.

Thanks for your passionate support of the campaign to end whaling.

Kind regards
