Hanging Rock Bat Evening – Newham & District Landcare Group

 

Hands On Bat Survey and Detailed Presentation on Bats

 

Newham District Landcare invite you to be part of a survey of bats at Hanging Rock Reserve.  The evening will include:

Data collected on the night will contribute to our understanding of bat populations at Hanging Rock.

 

Presenter: Dr Lindy Lumsden

 

Lindy has been conducting ecological research on bats for over 25 years.  Find out all about these fascinating creatures and their importance to us all.  See them close up.  Meet George, an Eastern Freetail Bat that has been coming to talks with her for 17 years!

 

All animals trapped or kept by Dr Lumsden are done so under appropriate licensing or permits from the Department of Sustainability and Environment.  Bats are not harmed by trapping techniques.

 

Cost 

 

$5 per adult, children (Under 16) free Includes BBQ meal and tea/coffee/cake and Entry-Exit from the reserve.

 

Numbers strictly limited – booking essential.  RSVP by March 9th

 

Program

 

5pm Start
5.15 – 6.15 Presentation by Lindy Lumsden
6.15  Show & tell (George the pet bat, Harp traps, other bats trapped prior)
7.00 BBQ, set up bat detectors, listening for calls
7.45   Release wild bats trapped the night before
8.00  Discussion & tea/coffee/cake
After 9pm Check traps

When: Saturday March 15th. Register at 5pm for 5.15 start.
What to Bring: BYO chair [or rug] and torch
