Luke Spielvogel & HRAG are asking you to sign a petition to PM Malcolm Turnbull to delay Macedon Ranges Council putting shelters at the Rock until the Rock's Mgt Plan is finished:

Late last year the Victorian Government’s Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning completed a review of Hanging Rock’s management arrangements. We met with the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water, Lisa Neville, and Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas, to discuss the findings ( The review was a great step in the right direction, addressing our primary concerns with three proposed changes:

  1. Governance and accountability enhancements to the current Committee of Management, including transparent annual financial reporting to DELWP which will be public.
  2. Reformation of the Advisory Committee to include all stakeholders and expert advice at an arm’s length from Council.
  3. Development of an overarching strategic vision and master plan for the Hanging Rock precinct to better recognise its conservation and cultural heritage values.

Minister Neville importantly also agreed with Council that deferring all current capital works at Hanging Rock was appropriate until we had a cohesive overarching plan for the Hanging Rock Precinct.

We lose some…

Unfortunately, Council has since advised it has been unable to secure an extension from Regional Development Australia for funding it had received to build toilet blocks and picnic shelters in the East Paddock. SOOOO, this project will proceed.

We’ve argued that deferring a major construction project on the very site which has been found to require a new master plan will ensure the best result for Hanging Rock. Forging ahead with this project and introducing built infrastructure threatens to prejudice the master plan before it even gets started.

The East Paddock has waited for appropriate management for over twenty years - surely another month or two to get the best result is appropriate.

How you can help our Council do the right thing…

Despite our Shire CEO sitting on the Regional Development Victoria Loddon Mallee Board, Council haven’t had any luck deferring the funding so we’ve decided to try to help out. Please click the link below to send a message to our Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash who oversees the RDA funding in question to explain why, while deadlines are one thing, the most important thing is getting the best result at Hanging Rock.

Thank you as always for your support, we’re almost there.
