Time Is Closing For You To Sign The Local Petition Calling For Macedon Ranges Council To Audio Record Its Meetings

( 2/11/15 - C)  Cut off date for returning signatures is November 13

If you've ever suffered through a Macedon Ranges Council meeting, you will know how badly some form of improved accountability and transparency is needed.  You might even be prepared to walk over hot coals to get it.  Or you can sign the petition calling on Council to at least make an audio recording of its meetings, and post the recording online with its meeting minutes.

This is a good initiative from a community member, so let's all get behind it.  As the petition's cut-off date approaches, time for an all out community effort!   Grab your petition sheet from http://www.signthepetition.com.au, sign it, get your neighbours and friends to sign it, and post it back to PO Box 100, Woodend, 3442 so it arrives by November 13.

MRRA Says:

After yet another 'from the dark side ' performance in Council chamber last week, something needs to be done to get even common decency injected into our Council's rock-bottom culture.

Audio recording would be a good start.  Many other Councils already have audio and/or video recording, some even live stream Council meetings to foster participatory democracy, and to provide a record of Chamber events to protect Councillors.  It would be rates well spent, for a change.

Yes, an online petition would have been easier but...  State parliament accepts them but Macedon Ranges Council is a bit precious about them, earnestly citing doubts about authenticity, particularly when a petition (like that for Hanging Rock), asks for something that doesn't suit Council.  Don't let that phase you, just get out your pen, sign the petition and post it back.
