RED ALERT

Macedon Ranges Seeing Red needs your help to stop the carve up of our beautiful rural Shire. There is direct conflict between the State Government Melbourne 2030 plan (which includes our Shire) and the aspirations of our community.  Put in simple terms the State Government has decided that we take up too much space.  We have approx. 2-8 households per hectare in our townships.  The State Government wants 10-15 households per hectare – the same as suburban Melbourne.  See details of the “carve up” on reverse side.

Our message to the Government is simple.  THIS IS NOT MELBOURNE.  The Government has identified 5 growth corridors out of Melbourne.  Unfortunately, the Macedon Ranges is smack bang in the middle of the Bendigo corridor and the Government REFUSES to acknowledge that we are an area of state significance that MUST be given State level protection.  60% of our land is open water catchment.

The Planning system in Victoria is complicated and discretionary.  We need rules to protect our beautiful Shire from becoming an extension of Melbourne.  The State Government has the power to give us the rules.

You have the power to do something about it.

The carve up

In the last few years there have been applications/approvals for more than 875 lots in the Gisborne New Gisborne area alone.  This equates to more than twenty years supply of residential land. Here are just some of the subdivisions -

New Gisborne

Gisborne

Unit development has also been rampant with more than 170 units approved/applied for in the Gisborne / New Gisborne township.  Many of the “units” are large double storey homes rather than older persons housing.

Here’s an example of what’s happening in one Gisborne street.  It is only two blocks long.

4-6 Calthorpe St. 5 Units approved and built (one dble storey).

8 Calthorpe Street. 7 dble story units applied for. Council refused permit. VCAT issued permit

12 Calthorpe Street. Application for 3 dble storey units.

16 Calthorpe Street. 4 dble storey units approved and built.

22 Calthorpe Street. Application for 17 units (7 dble storey)
