Update 12 From Save Bastion Point: Report On Panel Hearings
(11/9/08 - CC) Plus Master Plan of proposal
Dear Save Bastion Point Supporter,
The months of July and August were huge for the campaign team, with over 3 weeks of Inquiry hearings taking place in Mallacoota and Melbourne. We gave it our best shot, and together with the help of our legal team and expert witnesses, presented a strong case before the Panel.
Please read Update 12 for details of the Hearings, and of the Councils last minute plans for a road access along the beach. You can visit our website on www.savebastionpoint.org to download information and submissions made to the Inquiry.
Whilst we won’t know the results of the Inquiry for some months yet, we are urging our supporters to lobby politicians. It is important that key Ministers are aware of the continued community opposition, and that as many local MPs are briefed as possible. Again please see the Update and our website for details about how to do this.
Thanks for your ongoing support to Save Bastion Point! Don’t hesitate to be in touch on coordinator@savebasionpoint.org if you require further information or have any queries.

Latest From Bastion Point: Council Does Late Backflip On Roads Options
(16/7/08 - CC) But still wants an Option 3 breakwater facility
Here's the latest, received from Save Bastion Point:
Dear Save Bastion Point Supporter
COUNCIL DOES LATE BACKFLIP ON ROAD OPTIONS
On Friday 20th June, Council’s solicitors, at the 11th hour, informed the Panel that Council is modifying its Ocean Access proposal.
They stated that Council still supports the Option 3 breakwater facility, but is now willing to support a road along the beach instead of across the headland.
See www.savebastionpoint.org for a copy of the letter from Maddocks (Council’s solicitors) and a copy of the letter from Environment Defenders Office (EDO) with our response. Follow the link from our home page to the Council’s website to view the modified access road CES Report. Please note however that Council’s final proposed road design is yet to be provided.
We believe such infrastructure on our beach is totally unacceptable. We will keep preparing our presentation for the Hearing, and we will include in it a strong response to the new proposed access road as well.
We will endeavour to keep the website updated with further correspondence and any new information.
Thanks for your continued support
